Now choose one (or more) of your corner ornament designs and refine and improve it (or them, if you decide to do more than one) by redrawing repeatedly in charcoal.
Concentrate on the spacing and on the beauty of each line. Look for areas of each drawing you think could be done better and try to improve them in the next drawing.
If you find working only in charcoal a struggle at this stage, It may help you to produce some more carefully drawn versions of your design in pencil.
think about the relationships of each part to the others, and to the whole. Try to create balance and a simple beauty. don’t be satisfied with your first attempts, redraw the design repeatedly, trying to refine and improve it each time.
In the next stage of this exercise, we’ll take this refined example and trace over it with Chinese brush and ink.
