What it is:
Starting simple, this series of exercises represent increasingly complex compositional challenges for you to work through.
Why we’re doing it:
To deepen our sensitivity to spacing and proportion, whilst at the same time stretching our creativity.
1. Symmetrical Themes in Squares
Begin to develop your sensitivity to spacing and proportion by thinking carefully about the divisions of a square. Create original, abstract themes of your own to develop your creativity..
2. Curves and Circles
Increase the complexity of your themes with the addition of curves to your designs and circular formats.
3. Irregular Division
Moving away from symmetry, whilst staying with simple abstract themes, takes us a step closer to real world compositions.
4. Composing Drawings From Life
Applying sensitivity you’ve developed from the abstract exercises to real world drawings.
